Brent Harkness
Добавлен 17 ноя 2014
My name is Brent Harkness and I created this channel to aid people in welding education. My goal with this channel is to perform welds in all positions using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) processes. I'm in a unique situation in my life were I come in contact with many different aspects of the welding industry. If you have any questions or want to see a certain type of weld, don't hesitate to ask me and I'll try to help you out. Thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel.

I didn’t know and I’ve never welded but want to. Makes me want to start with TIG since it is the cheapest
Stick weld like a man
GTAW questions!
Can Do!
I've only seen two of these shorts and they both give off "DA photo" energy
Or turn the gas on
Always a good idea!
Dry it off lol
ask GMAW questions!
Can Do!
Well you'd probably want to increase your amps and/or lower your wire feed
I got that one right 😊 aaaaa
Lets see a video on dual shield flux core welding
Gas flow 😅😅
Gas flow.
Thank u yr helping me n im stoked i got all of the above
Nice job!
Really??? ))))) We use 5-6 liters per minute for welding 5 mm pipes. Welcome to Ukraine!!! Let's teach, provide work! But there is a nuance: Russian rockets often fly overhead! Does not have life insurance! But the consumption of argon and carbon dioxide is no more than 6 liters! we guarantee! and quality stitching!!!
The United States is one of the few that uses cubic feet per hour!
Grind them nice and rounded, kinda like your making one of them fancy bars they make out of gold and stuff
You know it!
I think 30ish CFH
30 is always a safe bet!
I didn’t know I needed this, but I did. I don’t even weld.
Wire Feed Speed, and Voltage. As a bonus answer amperage is controlled by the Wire Feed Speed.
You even got the bonus right. You must have an excellent teacher!
On and off lol
That is true!
Wire/voltage!
You got it!
Is that total area of porosity or is it diameter of the porosity?
It's if you measure every porosity hole and all of the holes add up to more than 3/8".
Seems like a lot doesn't it?
🔥🔥🔥 How he looked at me
When I welded my trailer jack I went vert-up but it was making globs I was running like 290 wire speed and 19V wat you think is the best settings
Grind it clean and try to go vertical down with an upward angle. Settings are tough with out knowing your machine. Every machine runs a bit differently.
Great advice Brent, I have been welding since 1986 starting off with a vocational welding program in HS, joined the army as a metal worker repairman, welder for 8 years. Worked as a production welder and in heavy fab for many years. I got into robotic weld programming and eventually got my CWI in 2011. Never got and associates or bachelors degree, but think ive done pretty well for myself. Definitely need more skilled welders out there.
For sure. That's a good story and path you took. You definitely have done well for yourself!
Just wanted to stop and say you've tought me so much brother, I;m very grateful for your videos and appreciate all the info you give to us welders. Thanks again man!!
Thanks. I appreciate the compliment!
I would go for A
You got it! Now, let's make sure that when you go to bend it we don't hear a pop!
Thanks man keep doing what your doing its helping me get my cwi
Good deal! Thanks Brian!

Thank you man. You did a great job. I thank from my heart for your great efforts.
Sure. Any time!
Flat, vertical, and overhead
Youre not teaching anything without showing what the terms Horizontally Fixed and 5G Pipe mean.
I like these daily quizzes. It’s a community and we can talk about it in the comments. Then if there’s confusion we can cite sources and explain
@@danielcielmaee3642 This is RUclips, not a welding forum. I'm just suggesting that going for a wider audience of welding beginners with no knowledge of these intermediate terms is a generally more helpful way to format instructional welding videos.
@@raptorjesus1360 true. But he does have a lot of other videos that are in depth and teach. I don’t know if he has one on welding positions yet or not.
I'd say whip technique is a stringer rather than weave because the side to side movement of a weave is to melt into all sides and surfaces of a joint which whip doesn't do so specifically. Whip and pause I'd say is about avoiding heat build up on open root welds and to allow the quick drying 6011's and 6010's to not be filled with slag inclusions...
I'm home schooling a preteen that is absolutely obsessed with welding. You're story is great motivation to show him a future in the field!
Good to hear!
It’s actually horizontal. Here’s why: AWS A3 has 2 separate definitions for weld position and weld test position. While we can agree that the position of the pipe is in the vertical fixed position that isn’t the position you welded in. And most qual programs that I’ve worked with will qualify you depending on weld position. 2g pipe is horizontal, just like 2g structure is horizontal. It’s mostly semantics but has real affects when talking about what someone is qualified to weld. A 2g pipe quality wouldn’t qualify you to weld vertically up structure, for instance. Something like 5G actually has you weld in multiple positions(overhead, vertical and I believe flat but I don’t have the book in front of me right now to verify)
wow i didn't know much about that you gave better insight about what area of welding path you need for good education and good job down the road usefully my goal is just take one day at the time and you'll get where you wanted to be at ! John G
Good luck!
If you're talking about a stick welder, DC current is the best for welding. Either DC + or - for me is smoother and more preferable for my welds.
I had to purchase 15 Lincoln MP 210 for a temporary lab. We tried to run 6010 on these machines and it absolutely would not run. We switch to 6011 and it welded like a dream. There's more of a difference in people realize.
For sure!
I always remember DCEN is straight polarity because a negative symbol is a straight line!
That’s a good tip
Excellent knowledge and demonstration, very well done. You said you were using a stainless-steel wire wheel? Are there any alternatives or is stainless the must-use? Also would there be a scenario of using a "patch" as in a separate sheet/piece of aluminum to fix a large hole/crack? One last question but is pulse/pulse an absolute must? I've been doing flux on mega marine industrial pieces and I'm trying to hone the aluminum skills. Your video has helped immensely, thank you very much!
If you use a carbon steel brush it will leave small iron deposits on the aluminum which will rust so stainless is a must. I've done patches on big holes, but usually the crack is so small you don't need a patch. Pulse on pulse is not a must but it sure is nice. It keeps everything nice and cool!
@@TVWeld Excellent, this info helps a lot! Thank you very much!
Reverse
You know it!
I have no experience welding and have a son wants to learn to weld. We were having this exact problem. Keep these welding shorts coming!
Sounds good.
I use a dolly
I believe that's the safest way!
Nice one keep it up
Do you need a ged to get certifed?
It depends on where you work & if the customer requires it!
**** Sandy.
Great info! I always knew there was something about storing them horizontally and the. Upright before use. Now I know why!
What about the SWIMS and JIMS
Thank you for your video. I appreciate it- and showing how to change them out. I do mostly MIG and didn't know!

Yea, short, simple, informative, great job!
